“Treasure from the Heaven”
CheonJiHyunhwang began as a venture company that was established in 1998.
Historicall, Korean ginseng has been a renowned and popular global trade item. However, after we
Learned that such glory has been buried in the past in the globl market, we established a ginseng R&D
company named Geumsan Cheonnyeon Hongsam in the early 2000s, to restore the glory of Korean ginseng
that has been lasted for several centuries, at Daejoen University, an institute of education and research known for Korean medicine.
With professors of Korean medicine, we carried out diverse research activities involving Korean red ginseng
and finally identified the characteristics of red ginseng that are caused by the changes in the ginsengprocessing methods.
Thus, we became certain that future of Korean ginseng lies in the research of the “development of a new black ginseng made with 9 times of
steaming and 9 times of sun-drying” which adds to the principle of changes that turns fresh ginseng to red ginseng.
As a result, we began a government-sponsored R&D project (project no. 105061-3) the Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in 2005
With Chungnam National University's College of Pharmacy as the main research institute and Daejeon
University's College of Korean Medicine a joint research institute under the topic of “high-functional and high-
value-added health functional food using black ginseng.”
To establish in-depth and accurate research result on Korean black ginseng, the project put the College of
Pharmacy, College of Medicine, and College of Korean Medicine together in the Korean Ginseng Research
Team (23 researchers, 3 years of research period, spent KRW 400 million for research expenses)
to find the best black ginseng-making process, analysis and structure of black ginseng ingredients
comparison to raw and red ginseng, black ginseng's anti-cancer effects, anti-obesity effect, brain function
boosting effect, and immunity-boosting effects until the early 2008
Understanding the significance of Korean black ginseng and aiming to delve into more professional and in-depth research, the Korea,
arch Institute of Biotechnology and Bioscience, the country’s premier government-funded biotechnology research institution
assumed the role of the lead research institution. Collaborating with Kyung Hee University College of Korean Medicine and Konyang
University College of Medicine in the first half of 2008, the government once again issued a national R&D project titled “Development of
Highly Functional and Highly Effective Processed Ginseng Products for the Prevention and Treatment of Incurable Diseases in Adults”
(Project Number 108071-3). The research spanned 3 years, involving 44 researchers, and was allocated a budget of KRW 520 million.
In the second half of 2008, efforts to advance Korean black ginseng research further materialized by forming a new research team. This
team carried out an additional government R&D project (Project Number 108164-3) with a research period of 3 years, involving 42
researchers, and operating with a budget of KRW 520 million. The team’s research focused on exploring the potential of Korean black
ginseng in the prevention and treatment of cancer, diabetes, and osteoporosis, in addition to investigating its benefits in dementia
prevention and cognitive function enhancement.
